Catamaran Dan's Story

⚓ Early Years
– Born of Norwegian Roots. From the start, I’ve felt the pull of the sea. With Norwegian blood in my veins, I’ve always been a water baby. The ocean, lakes, and rivers weren’t just places to visit—they were places to live, explore, and belong.  Well-educated and well-traveled, I’ve been on the water most of my life, and with my Norwegian roots, the sea feels like part of my DNA. I’m a true water baby.

⚓ Navy Years
- Submarine Service. I served aboard U.S. Navy nuclear submarines, trained in ship’s control, communications and navigation. Life beneath the waves taught me discipline, seamanship, and the confidence to trust both crew and craft when conditions push limits.

⚓Charter Captain & Instructor
- After the Navy, I turned passion into profession. For decades I held a USCG 200-ton Merchant Mariner license and ran charters where safety always came first, but adventure was always close behind. I also became an ASA sailing instructor for both monohulls and multihulls, teaching new sailors the fundamentals and helping experienced ones refine their craft.

⚓I’m a cruising sailor at heart. My passion has always been about endurance, exploration, and self-reliance rather than chasing marks around a buoy.
Fun Fact: “Grinder” While I don’t consider myself a racing sailor, I did have a stint aboard a Mumm 36. I worked the cockpit on the winches, grinding through tacks and gibes (for you Brits...gybe) in the heat of competition. The crew gave me the nickname “Grinder.” It was a great experience, but it confirmed what I already knew—my heart belongs to cruising, voyaging, and answering the call of the sea. One of my guiding mantras is “Havet Kaller” — The Sea Calls. And when the sea calls, I answer. Salt water or fresh, it makes no difference—if it floats, I’ll sail it.

⚓ Big Catamarans
– 45–55 FeetI captained larger catamarans in the 45–55 foot range, vessels built for comfort, speed, and distance. They were powerful, rewarding to handle, and carried me and my crews far. But what I discovered is that the biggest memories don’t always come from the biggest boats.

⚓ Hobie Getaways – Small Boats, Big Adventures. That’s when the Hobie Getaway became my boat of choice. Light, tough, and capable of carrying far more gear than most expect, it gave me the raw, pure experience of sailing close to the water, self-reliant and free.
a) 6-Month R/T Voyage: Sailed the Shamrocket from San Felipe down the Sea of Cortez to Cabo San Lucas, and return.
b) Bahamas Crossing: Departed Fort Lauderdale, crossed the Gulf Stream, and wintered in the Bahamas.
c) Endless Lakes & Coasts: Arizona’s Roosevelt, Havasu, Powell, Baja’s beaches — all on Hobie Getaways.

⚓ Fun Fact – “Grinder”. Though I’m a cruising sailor at heart, I spent time aboard a Mumm 36 racing yacht, grinding winches in the cockpit. The crew called me “Grinder.” It was fast, gritty work—but it confirmed that my soul belongs to cruising and voyaging.

⚓ Proof of Concept – The ShamrocketMost recently, my Hobie Getaway, the Shamrocket, became my proof of concept. Outfitted for everything from day sails to multi-month raids, she proved that small boats can achieve big things.

⚓ The Next Chapter – The Nevado Raiders. Now I’m ready to take this public. The Nevado Raiders will become a fellowship of sailors, explorers, and modern-day Vikings. Together, we will launch raids across lakes, coasts, and oceans, building a community of adventurers who live by the same mantra that has guided me all my life: Havet Kaller — The Sea Calls. And together, we will answer.

Mission, Values and Objectives

Mission

I will build the Nevado Raiders into a world-renowned fleet of modern-day Vikings—sailors, explorers, and adventurers who raid coastlines, explore lakes, and cross oceans together. We will be known not only for our daring voyages, but also for the community, culture, and stories we create. My mission is simple: to prove that small boats can do big things.

Through the Nevado Raiders, I will unite skippers, crew, and vessels into a movement that
1) Pushes the boundaries of what’s possible with Hobie Cats, day sailors, and coastal cruising craft.
2) Creates a fellowship of sailors who live by camaraderie, seamanship, and exploration.
3) Inspires the public with bold expeditions that will be captured through media, storytelling, and reality TV.
4) Promotes sailing and adventure as a lifestyle that anyone can aspire to.

⚓ Values

1) Freedom – The open water belongs to those willing to answer its call.
2) Brotherhood & Sisterhood – We will build a fellowship bound by trust, loyalty, and adventure.
3) Exploration – Salt water or fresh, near shore or open ocean—if it floats, we’ll sail it.
4) Authenticity – What we do will be real, raw, and human. No yachtsman’s polish, just the true grit of modern Vikings.
5) Innovation – From outfitting a Hobie Getaway for months at sea to building a new model of small-boat expedition, we will redefine what’s possible.

Influence & Goals

1) I intend to make the skippers, crew, and vessels of the Nevado Raiders world famous. Our expeditions will be bold enough to capture the world’s attention, and I will leverage media to share our story on a global stage.
2) Reality TV & Media Coverage – Our adventures will be so unique that reality TV will bring cameras aboard.
3) Catamaran Dan as “Winfluencer” – I will test, showcase, and recommend the gear, vessels, and practices that sailors and adventurers around the world rely on.
4) Global Reach – By blending Viking-inspired exploration with modern sailing, the Nevado Raiders will inspire audiences across cultures.
5) Business & Revenue Streams - I am skilled at taking a concept and turning it into a revenue-generating machine. The Nevado Raiders will grow not only as a movement but as a sustainable enterprise
6) Media & Entertainment – Reality TV, digital content, and streaming series based on our voyages.
7) Sponsorships & Partnerships – Collaborations with gear makers, sailing brands, and adventure companies.
8) Merchandise – Apparel, sailing gear, and branded products inspired by the Nevado Raiders lifestyle.
9) Events & Experiences – Coastal “raids,” adventure camps, and onshore/offshore events for members and supporters.
10) Education & Training – Sailing instruction, seamanship clinics, and leadership development based on real-world expeditions.

The Call -
The Nevado Raiders will be more than just a fleet. We will be a movement, a fellowship, and a story the world will want to follow. Because my mantra will always guide us forward: Havet Kaller — The Sea Calls. And together, we will answer it.
